Research
My research focuses on rational design and synthesis of emerging nanostructured membranes and devices using 2D materials (graphene, hBN, TMDCs, MXenes, graphyne), 1D nanotubes (CNTs, BNNTs), ultrathin 3D materials (MOFs, COFs), Janus as well as biomimetic materials based on fundamental nanofluidic study, for enabling atomic length scale control in large scale manufacturing processes and making impactful contributions in high impact practical applications in the water-energy-environment-catalysis-military-healthcare nexus.
The specific research directions I’m interested in pursuing within 5–6 years are i) proton exchange membranes, ii) precise chemical separation, iii) chemical warfare protection, iv) bioartificial pancreas, v) battery separators, vi) resource extraction and recovery, and vii) gas separation.
My long-term goal is to move the state-of-the-art of nanomaterials and nanotechnology forward and commercialize the next generation of membranes and devices based on emerging nanostructured materials.
